Paint

Hey!

I started new painting today and I'm really loving it. I almost didn't want to paint this image because I thought it would be too hard, and that I would really struggle with it.

as I was painting it I had a feeling that it would change the way I paint, and my subject matter, forever. Yes, it's a game changing kinda painting. I am so excited!

I've been struggling with the new pieces that I've been working on, but this piece really helped me figure out why exactly I'm struggling.

I discovered that I am painting way too fast. I slowed it down today and started painting very thinly. I used lots of paint thinner and built my layers up as I went. What a difference that made!

I'm also muting my colors a bit. The colors I've been using have been so bright, which I really love, but I feel like the gloomy Oregon weather has started to influence my palette. I'm so tempted to paint a room dark grey too!

It's always so amazing when you suddenly discover a new way of doing things. I really love the new painting. The composition is fantastic. :)

oh I do love this. I wish I could 'really' paint. I can just lay down blocks of color :)

Looking good :)

Wow - just wow. I just got "caught up" on your blog after a few days and am just beaming at you. You are such an inspiration! To come from a sad place of questioning art and money to pushing past your own painting boundaries in a matter of days? Methinks that is called a breakthrough. The new painting is GORGEOUS - (all your work is gorgeous!) but it's easy to see the transition you're making. Congrats on pushing your paint into new territory - it's an exciting time for you!

It is so refreshing to recognize when you need to slow down, so that you can enjoy the act of painting versus just appreciate the finished work.
