Okay... I painted something today that scared me a bit, but I felt like I really needed to paint this painting. I feel like I need to get out of my image comfort zone. I need to paint things that might scare me and other people, just a little bit. So, that's what I did.
I like this painting. It's not totally finished yet. The face needs work, the deer needs work, and I have yet to add the beeswax, but so far, I am happy with how it's going.
The image is from an article in National Geopgraphic. It's about the Sami who live in Jokkmokk, Sweden. They are the last of the reindeer herders. This particular image is of a herder who has come across two female deer who got into a fighting match which ended up in entaglement. They were unable to survive. One of the deer belongs to the herder who found them, the other to his cousin. He is deeply saddened to have found them...
