Thursday

OK, so first of all I feel really stupid...

I had posted earlier that I had a show in Cincinnati in February at Pink Milk Studios. I was wrong. It's not in Cincinnati, it's in Cleveland, and it's not Pink Milk Studios, It's at Paper Cuts and Gluesticks Gallery. Sorry Kari! Kari is the lovely lady that runs the gallery, and we both have the same sewing machine!

Anyway, I apologize. So it's Thursday. I've just been working on homework. Yes, Graphic Design. I spent hours on my homework for this week. My teacher looked at it for all about 10 minutes and checked it off. Awesome!

I watched this documentary on the type face Helvetica last night. It was really interesting. Who knew you could make a whole documentary on a font? The best part of the movie was the beginning. They filmed this little man putting together some actual letterpress type, ink it up and print the word helvetica in helvetica font. Of course. But, it made me realize how much I LOVE printing, and how much I miss it. The smell of the ink, rolling brayers, and just using the press to create something. Someday I will own my very own press and print studio. Someday...

Yesterday I got a message from one of my "customers" on Etsy. He wrote the nicest compliments I have ever received before. He told me that he loved my work, and that I had even inspired him to start painting again! How awesome is that? He said that he'd send me a note when he got his Etsy shop up and running so that I can check it out. That made my day :)

Well, I was going to post some pictures, but Blogger is having issues, so maybe later.

thanks for the comments on my blog! i think you are the second person to read it, how exciting. I too love type and printing. I am lucky enough to own an old etching press (well, about 30 years old). I always wanted to learn letterpress printing, yum. When I was in the 10th grade girls were not allowed to take any "shop" classes, but for some reason they let me and my best friend Karen in the printing class. Drawers full of metal type, ink squishing onto platens and rollers. even then I was in love, but knew not where to go with it. would love to view the documentary. can you post the name? anyway thank you for your comment about making connections. it's true. and did i say i really like your new paintings? thanks so much for writing, janice la verne (la verne is my middle name, my friends use it like it's my last name, have for years...)
