Today is...

Going to be hard.

I already feel tired, and homesick and lonely.
I don't mind spending time by myself. In fact, I would rather be by myself most of the time. However, there is a difference between wanting to be by yourself, as a choice, and having to be alone.

Living here doesn't help either. In Portland I could just walk to go get some coffee and hang out. Here the closest thing to that is a 15 minute drive and Starbucks. I really don't want to hang out in a Starbucks.

Sometimes I wish I was more social, and nice.

Anyhow. I am looking forward to New York, and I am really looking forward to seeing Butch. I miss him. I am also looking forward to seeing a million water towers and taking pictures of all of them.

I should call people.

Thanks everyone for commenting on all my frames and my paintings. :)
It always means a lot to me.

This post is actually how i feel often. I love being a loner, most of the time i'd rahter be with just myself, but there are days when i'm down and wish i wasn't so content being alone so i would instantly have someone to hang out.

Chin up! Think watertowers. :)

I whole heartedly understand.

Ps. Your paintings amaze me.

Hope you can take comfort in that you are not alone. Being an artist can be such a solitary act in and of itself. 12 years ago we moved from the city to the country, and now it's a good 30 minute drive to get anywhere to socialize. By the way, I really love your work, I think you are extremely talented!

sometimes i think solitude is so rich i want someone to share it with which sounds sort of crazy.

we moved from downtown where my best friend lived two blocks away and all i had to do was walk out my door to say hi to the world, neighbors, other friends, to this oasis on top of a hill. i love the quiet, the peace, and not being interruped in my studio. and i miss all those things too.

but, it's different for me because they are only a couple miles away. wish i could invite you to a cut and paste party. it's a favorite of mine, you don't have to talk, but everyone sits around and has fun making stuff.

happy sunday. next time i'm in harrisburg i'll photograph the water tower, it's a doozy.

I'm sorry you are having a rough weekend. And that the closest coffee shop is a Starbucks. That stinks. You should take a break and read a good book.
Next time I visit my sister in law in Ann Arbor, I want to look you up, if that would be ok :).

Hey Susan!
That would be cool!
I love Ann Arbor. We have been there a couple of times. There is this really great paper/book arts store there.
Just let me know when you'll be around :)

I'm sorry you're lonely. I totally get it. I'm very much a loner, too; always have been. But you're right: there's a very big difference between choosing and having it forced upon you.

Being homesick exacerbates things. Big time.

Let me know if there is anything from Portland I can send along to cheer you up.

Hey!
Thanks everyone for the encouraging words. :)

This also means a lot to me.

And thanks Diana!
I don't think there is anything in particular. Unless you can find a way to send a tasty soy latte through the post office :)

Oh yes, Ann Arbor, I love it too, Hollander's paper is one of my favorite places in the world. And there is this deli there called Zimmerman's that has the best bread ever, if you haven't been there yet, you need to check it out!

I am sure we will take a trip sometime soon, and I will let you know when :)

Hollanders!
That place is amazing and dangerous! I could spend thousands of dollars in there.

We were actually going to eat at Zimmermans, but there was an hour wait for the table, and a line out the door to get into the deli :)
It must be good.
