Lessons in Screen Printing

1. Don't coat your screen too thick.

2. Leave screens to dry for at least 3-4 hours with a fan...without a fan, over night.

These are the first two lessons I have learned the last two days.
Unfortunately by experience.

I decided that even though I had a really good idea about how to make a screen, I should actually sit down and watch the video that they sent with the kit. I am really glad I did...

Anyway, screens are drying and up until 10 minutes ago I had no idea what kind of work I wanted to be making with my screen printing adventures. It was really starting to frustrate me.

You know when you really want to paint, or draw, or whatever, and you just can't think of what to make? Or when you have really great ideas, but you don't know how to translate them onto a 2 dimensional surface. Or, you have great ideas, and concepts, and you know what you want to do, but you have no idea how to work with the medium you have? Well, those are ALL the things that I have been fighting today. And Yesterday.

But I came up with an idea, and with a little help from Mike, we can do it!
I want to make some limited edition posters of the above image :)
My boyfriend is pretty awesome.

hi!
i screen print a lot and often hit that 'errh, what the heck do i want to print' wall when i've got screens drying. tinkering with images of my own paintings helps me figure it out, good luck with the new prints!
love your work!

Arrgghh! Recommend. Would you recommend the same kit? Love your blog too. Good luck in your new surroundings, may they be an inspiration to you.

Hey Kim!

I bought the kit from silkscreensupplies.com.

I think it's pretty good.
I wish they would have included more ink, you only get black, and one more screen, you only get one of those too...

but as far as all the stuff you need to prep and clean your screens, it's really good.

It would be cool to have my own screen printing equipment to make t-shirts with whatever images I want.
